Data Export

What is the Data Export?

The Covestor Data Export is designed for people who want to export their account information, or develop tools that work with their portfolio data uploaded to the Covestor site. Data Export allows you to download your own broker data - as well as to the Covestor portfolio calculations applied to that data. The current functionality only allows for the export of data permissioned by a single, authenticated user (aggregate, anonymous data access is not yet supported).

We know that many Covestor members use the service to track their portfolios. While we provide a range of tools and calculations to analyze your data on the Covestor site, we realize that many people use their own analytical tools and would be happy to develop applications themselves which use this information. The feeds provided by Covestor allow you to take your data and use it in any number of ways, such as for use on third party sites with supporting applications that the site itself doesn't yet provide.

Can other members or third party applications access my data using
Data Export without my permission?

No. Each of the data feeds creates a unique and random URL which is only available for you to view when logged in to your account. This URL remains fixed, so once you have created the connection to the URL the feed will continue to update automatically. The feeds are fully in your control. We would encourage you to be careful to handle the data extracted through the Data Export in line with your own privacy requirements. If you want to cut off an application which is using one of your feeds, or are concerned to ensure that the URL generated changes, simply click the reset button on the Data Export page in Settings and the fixed URL will be changed.

Is this data available to me in other formats?

This is the first version of our Data Export facility. We plan to continue to develop this, both in allowing third party developers to build applications for use on Covestor and in widening the range of formats available. At this point we only provide XML, RSS and CSV feeds. If you have any requests for the development of this feature please Contact Us.
