Every day I get the same irritating comment on this blog: “Stop bashing (insert stock ticker here)! You’re just saying these things because you’re short and want to drive it down!” Actually, to be accurate, the comments I get usually include profanity and grammatical errors but we can ignore that for now. The point is this:

I am not trying to malign any legitimate company or stock. Yes, I am often short on the stocks I discuss on this site. But do any of you really think I short good stocks and then try to make them seem bad? Of course not. It’s far easier just to find a horrifically overvalued company (there are plenty, trust me) and then expose it for what it is. All I am doing, if my blog has any effect at all (and I doubt it does), is speeding up the natural correction process. I even disclose when I’m short these stocks — something I am not legally obligated to do.

But beyond this, whether or not I am short is irrelevant. You shouldn’t like/dislike a stock because of my position in it. All of the facts I bring to light in these posts are documented, usually via SEC filings, which apparently many people are still unwilling to read because I am constantly accused of making up facts which are spelled out in plain English on sec.gov. In effect, I am conducting due diligence on behalf of my readers and yet many of them are still too lazy to even follow the links I provide and see the truth for themselves. Don’t be one of these people. Ignoring the truth does you no favors in the world of financial speculation.
