Hey Perry,
I have a suggestion to make concerning the Covestor platform and website: I think it would be beneficial to enable the users to add other members to some sort of Friends list. It would create a much more community feeling to the site and would allow us to meet others and exchange ideas with them through the site. Having a 'Friends List' would certainly kick up the activity since we would be able to more readily find one another. I know Covestor already has a 'Track List' but a Friends List is something wholly different and will add a more personal means of using the site. Let me know what you think, and thanks for your time. I am personally working on some thinking/research on the risk-reward relationship. The fundamental question to be asked: what is reward without risk? And if it risk and reward are universally intertwined, then one must ask: what is the proportion between the reward I am pursuing versus the risk I am incurring? Close

DIVX's volatility is what attracted me to it, because I am a bottom-feeder and I only invest in companies that seem to be 'troubled' but are actually either on the way to recovery or doing fine.
Unfortunately I overslept this morning (I have a cold) so I missed all of the action. I would have added more to my position at any share price below $7.00. If we look at the steep decline of DIVX (or the steep decline of any stock) using a behavioral psychology perspective, we can see that there is a chance of immediate recovery since any combination of these three things can happen: 1.) those holding shares before the decline and still holding it afterward will want to add more to their position if they still have a longer performance perspective for the stock and want to lower their cost basis. 2.) those not holding the stock but who catch notice of the decline might take a position now that it looks "at a deep discount" or "cheap" 3.) the stock can rebound within a matter of days or at weeks
Some examples of this rapid decline and rebound are FMT, TMA, and SCA. Had you and I traded quickly within a matter of days with these stocks, we would have seen returns between 20-100%. With DIVX, it is slightly a different matter because it is not facing major concerns so it is not going to swing 100% or so. However, DIVX is likewise volatile and has seen a likewise 'steep' decline in its market cap. Not only would I stay in at this level, I would add more shares to my position. I sat in front of the computer during after-market most of the day yesterday, and at any point I could have sold my holding in DIVX for $7.75 for a gain of about +12%, but I did not do so because I expect to sell at $9.87. I intend to add more to my position on the condition that DIVX sinks below $7.
Thanks for your question and I hope my thoughts were helpful in some way.

Recently received the following thoughtful investment advice: If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00. With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left. If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. PHP Close
