Where The Light Is

Got home from a long, tiring day of work to find my recent Amazon.com purchase had arrived: John Mayer’s Where The Light Is, a new live concert DVD.  Before you start saying, “wait, isn’t John Mayer that gayrod who sang Your Body Is A Wonderland?”, stop.  Yes, John Mayer has had some pop acoustic guitar hits, but he is much more than a sappy singer-songwriter.  I have been a fan of JM since 2002, back when it wasn’t too cool for a guy to like John Mayer.  Since then, he has introduced me to a whole new genre of music that I had never appreciated, the blues.  I am no longer ashamed to admit that I love his music.  I had the pleasure of finally seeing him live at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival last summer.  He didn’t dissapoint.  After his set finished, I remember feeling a sense of pride, knowing that he had just lit up a stadium full of guitar snobs.  He showed them that yes, he can play.  I mean, he can REALLY play.

If you don’t know his music, or just know him as the guy who sings “Daughters” and bags a ton of hot chicks, check out this DVD.  I’ll stop gushing soon, but I really feel that he should be known for the things he is really good at, not the things that the stupid general public are obsessed with.  I am extremely excited that I will be seeing him again in just a few weeks.  Anyways, if you do check him out, I hope you like him.  He’s keepin’ the blues alive.
