Market Timing
I've been sitting on my hands for the last couple of months during this period of market volatility thinking I should have greater exposure to energy and commodities etc., but not actually having the courage to dive into the market. This is what makes me a poor investor, not least when I see some of the guys on Covestor who have been performing fantastically during this volatile period.

One surprising observation that comes up often when viewing the charts of those that have been tracked for a long time here is that money stuffed under a mattress would outperform the market benchmark.
The gasoline left in my lawnmower over the winter outperformed my 401(k) by 50%.
These are unusual days. A handful of times I have thought about what you said in your blog about keeping money on the side, waiting for things to calm down. When the market is down I think "Should have listened to Simon!".
